Been a minute, hasn’t it?
I took a few months off to pursue a master’s degree in Information Technology through Western Governor’s University. When I began the on January 1, my goal was to finish within a year. Not knowing what the classes, tests, or assignments were like I wasn’t sure what to expect.
My first class was passed within a week, which was quite the surprise. I spent my evenings reading the material, which only took a couple of days to finish. That first weekend I submitted the writing assignments and passed first try.
This pattern continued, completing a class about every 1-2 weeks (with a couple of exceptions), and the final capstone project was submitted and passed in late April.
The value of WGU is with their competency-based approach. It’s the only way I was able to complete the program in the time I did. It means that during my career, I managed to acquire enough knowledge and skill in all the key areas to help me move quickly through the program. I appreciated that approach. Don’t get me wrong, there were definitely some classes that were packed with information (PMBOK for example is pretty densely packed with terms), but my experience helped me put the pieces together properly.
With that done, I return focus to what I enjoy – Azure. I hope to get back into tinkering with new (to me) things in Azure, and maybe write about my experiences.
