Periodic Update – May 19th, 2023

Am still working on my time management skills – would definitely like to write here more often. Been listening, via Audible, to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and I’ve just gone through Habit 3: Put First Things First. I’m a work in progress, but aren’t we all?

I had the opportunity at work to go through a virtual training course for AZ-500, the Azure Security Engineer course. Was a good session. As typically happens though, work creeps into training time and sometimes I miss some things. No matter, I ended the week taking and passing the exam. Was very happy to do so.

I’ve enjoyed taking my company up on its training opportunities. I’m always a bit amused when people don’t take the offers for training. I’d previously worked in State and Local Government where the training budget was either a magazine subscription or a couple of hours a week dedicated to reading readily available online documentation. So to work for an organization that pays for virtual training and a portion of the pairing exams is fantastic. I’ve enjoyed collecting the various Azure certifications over the last two years. I see the certifications as personal milestones.

Outside of the training, I’ve been knee deep in attempting to get a Site-to-Site VPN working happily within our Azure environment. It’s tricky working within the confines of the sins of our forefathers, but we have a good relationship with Microsoft so I’ve got support helping me along.

I’ve been thinking about ideas for my next technical post that I want to do and have settled on something relating to networking and network troubleshooting. I’ve learned a lot over the last month about what you can and can’t do with respect to networking in Azure. I’ve always enjoyed networking, so when I get a chance to learn more about it I get excited.

Until next time…
